A NON-EVENT: Residents, visitors, and local officials breathed a collective
sigh of relief as Hurricane Earl passed far off the South Jersey coast, leaving
Avalon & Stone Harbor largely unscathed. Gray skies and 30mph winds lasted
for several hours, combined with large waves and minor tidal flooding. By 4pm on
Friday skies were clearing as a crowd of onlookers watched a lone surfer get the
ride of his life while surfing the waves at the 101st Street
beach.
OUT WITH A BANG: The Labor Day Weekend was a hit by all accounts. The weather was
warm & sunny without being too hot, and good crowds were found in
restaurants and business districts. By Tuesday morning the Island was quiet
leaving the "Second Summer" to be enjoyed by those still fortunate enough to be
here. Fantastic weather is usually the norm in September, along with great
weekend events (see below). Come join us!
MORTGAGE RATES remain at unbelievable
lows with thirty year fixed rates averaging 4.5% for conforming loan amounts.
The Mortgage Banker's Association reported that mortgage applications for new
home purchases increased by 6.3% last week.
